Tyler Diaz
Scholar in Residence
19th Century Black Musicians
Tyler Diaz is an electric guitar player and musicologist from Queens, NY. As a performer, he has played in rock bands, at jazz clubs, and has been a pit musician for downtown NYC theater. As a scholar, he has given lecture recitals and presentations on nineteenth-century African American music. He maintains an interest in German language and culture, African American opera, and anti-gentrification activism. Tyler is deeply invested in the communities he has served, including the Lower East Side (Manhattan), Bushwick (Brooklyn), Philadelphia, and his home borough.
