Early Church Histories
Histories of Black churches in Philadelphia in the early to mid 1800s are more than just a listing of leaders. They tell the story of social, political and economic challenges and growth. They list names of leaders and members, and so become important genealogical resources. And they include details about the lived experience both within the church and in the greater city.

Here we present those churches that have written histories. This represents only a subset of all the churches in Philadelphia in the early 1800s.
